GRUB CONTROL
CLOSE UP GRUB DAMAGE ACTIVE FEEDING
Grubs are the insect that can cause the most amount of damage in the shortest amount of time.  They come from the eggs of beetles, most commonly, the Japanese Beetle.  Most Scarab beetles emerge from the soil during the months of May-June. These beetles feed on trees, shrubs and flowers during the summer months. In June and July, they begin their search for suitable locations for egg laying. Their favorite locations are lush, well-watered lawns, as moist soils are ideal to tunnel in. Eggs hatch in 2-3 weeks and the newborn grubs begin to feed on the lawn’s root system. You can start to see grub damage as early as August and as late as November in our region. Lawn injury is first noticed by a gradual yellowing, browning and wilting. Later stages appear as irregular brown, dead patches. Grubs feed on the roots, allowing the turf to be pulled up or rolled back easily. Skunks, raccoons, moles, and birds will often tear up the turf to feed on grubs, creating even more damage than the grubs would have caused alone.
